AKLAN – Tourist arrivals in Boracay Island in Malay town declined slightly in June this year, with just over 205,000 visitors recorded for the month, based on official data from the Malay Tourism Office.
According to the report, a total of 205,310 tourists visited the island last month – higher than the 222,952 tourists logged in May.
The bulk of arrivals continued to be domestic tourists, making up around 90 percent or 184,497 of the total figure. Meanwhile, 17,752 were foreign nationals and 3,061 were overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and returning overseas Filipinos.
Local tourism officials attributed the dip to the end of the summer peak season, which usually draws higher tourist volumes from March to May. Despite the decrease, stakeholders note that the figures remain strong, signaling continued interest in the country’s premier beach destination.
The Department of Tourism (DOT) and the local government of Malay are sustaining their promotional efforts to attract more international tourists to the island. Marketing campaigns targeting key foreign markets such as South Korea, China, and the United States are being intensified as part of the national strategy to boost tourism recovery and revenues post-pandemic.
Boracay remains one of the Philippines’ most visited destinations, known for its white sand beaches, crystal-clear waters, and growing range of eco-tourism and wellness activities. Officials are also working to enhance sustainable tourism practices and improve infrastructure to support the anticipated influx of visitors in the coming months./PN
