KALIBO, Aklan – The famous White Beach of Boracay Island ranked among the top 25 world’s best beaches based on the TripAdvisor’s Traveler’s Choice Awards for 2018.
Boracay landed in the 25th spot in the world and 2nd in Asia.
“[White Beach] is famous for its amazing sunsets and its white sand that stays cool in hot weather,” the travel website said.
This despite the “cesspool” tag it got from President Rodrigo Duterte, who also threatened to close the island after six months if its environmental problems remain unfixed.
Grace Bay in Providenciales, Turks and Caicos which has “turquoise waters, powdery snow-white sand and glorious year-round sunshine” topped the list this year.
Baia do Sancho in Fernando de Noronha, Brazil ranked second, Varadero Beach in Cuba was third, Eagle Beach in Aruba, fourth, Seven Mile Beach in Cayman Islands, fifth, La Concha Beach in San Sebastian, Spain, sixth, Clearwater Beach in Florida, seventh, Seven Mile Beach in Negril, Jamaica, eighth, Bavaro Beach, Dominican Republic, ninth, and Playa Norte, Isla Mujeres in Mexico, tenth.
