BACOLOD City – Two unidentified motorcycle-riding assassins shot a village councilman to death in Barangay Lopez Jaena, Sagay City, Negros Occidental.
Police Major Albert Sy, Sagay Ciy police chief, identified the victim as Mario Negro, 39, a resident of the village.
Negro, a refrigeration technician, was driving a tricycle when attacked around 3 p.m. on Nov. 12, Sy said.
He sustained four gunshot wounds on the body. He was rushed to the Sagay City District Hospital but the attending physician declared him “dead on arrival.”
His helper, Justine Armenteros, was onboard the vehicle but was unharmed.
According to Sy, the gunmen fled towards Barangay Bato. They were wearing facemasks and helmets so no one in the vicinity of the shooting had a good look at their faces.
Policemen of Sagay recovered four spent shells of a .45-caliber gun from the crime scene.
They have yet to identify the attackers and the motive in the killing as of this writing./PN
