ILOILO City – The Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) honored four barangays for preserving and conserving the environment in Western Visayas.
Gawad EMB awards were given to barangays Nabitasan in La Paz district, South Baluarte in Molo district, Sto. Niño in Arevalo district, and San Rafael in Mandurriao district.
The awardees mobilize their communities to conserve and clean the Iloilo River.
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog congratulated the winners and also encouraged other barangays, especially those located near the waterway, to conduct cleanup drives.
The Gawad EMB award recognizes barangays with an adopted water body through the Adopt Estero Water Body Program of EMB.
The “adopt water body program” is a collaborative program among estero communities, donor partners, local government units (LGUs) and EMB to achieve a cleaner, safer and healthier environment and waterbody.
The program also aimed to clean the estero of debris and silt starting 2010 until all have been cleaned up and mobilize community in cleaning the estero and enlist the active participation in the actual cleanup. (Iloilo City PIO/PN)
