THE Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) expands its financial education campaign to social workers, farmers and fisherfolk.
Partnering with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Department of Agriculture, employees will have access to online learning modules tackling financial literacy.
BELA, or the BSP E-Learning Academy, offers lessons on financial planning, budgeting, and debt management laid out in videos, interactive activities, and assessments.
BSP Deputy Governor Bernadette Romulo-Puyat underscored the importance of financial education amid the rise in credit card use.
DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian said social workers should be equipped with knowledge and skills on financial literacy as frontliners in empowering the vulnerable sector.
“If we train them to become trainers, that’s a force multiplier that will spread across 7,000 plus islands in the farthest and smallest island out there so we can send a good word that financial literacy is social protection,” Gatchalian said.
The program is under the central bank’s National Strategy for Financial Inclusion. Through the agriculture development, online modules can also be accessed by farmers and fisherfolk.
Lessons in the modules were developed by the private sector represented by BDO Unibank that said the program will help bridge the gap between those who are yet to open their bank accounts.
The BSP said the e-learning modules will soon include lessons in investments and fraud protection. (GMA Integrated News)
