BACOLOD City – The Sanguniang Panlungsod (SP) here wants to strengthen existing traffic rules and regulations to address traffic woes.
SP member Simplicia Distrito introduced a resolution approved by colleagues urging the Bacolod City Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) to be stern in implementing the metro’s anti-jaywalking ordinance.
Distrito said she wants to bring back the muscle of the ordinance after personally noticing that there are still a lot of individuals, particularly in the downtown area, who habitually violates traffic rules.
“BTAO has been the enforcing arm of the city in imposing order and discipline in all of its streets, however, as of this moment, numerous traffic violators, particularly of “jaywalking”, get off scot-free due to the lax enforcement of our traffic ordinances,” she said.
Distrito cited on her roposal that the local government is mandated to ensure the safety of its inhabitants and maintain a sound traffic management.
“The strict implementation of our anti-jaywalking ordinance has several favorable yields: to discipline individuals; smooth traffic flow; to ensure safety of individuals; and to increase the trust fund collection of BTAO for traffic violations,” Distrito said./PN
