THE camp of former world boxing champion Rey Loreto is seeking the help of fellow Davaoeño President Rodrigo Duterte as he has yet to receive his fight purse from his title defense against South African boxer Nkosinathi Joyi two years ago.
Loreto’s trainer Joven Jorda told the Buzzer Beater that since the bout was held in East London, South Africa on March 22, 2015, his boxer has yet to receive a single centavo from the bout promoter Siphato Handi of Mamali Boxing Productions.
“Ako ay nananawagan sa ating mahal na Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte at butihing senador Manny Pacquiao at kay Department of Agriculture secretary at dating promoter ni Rey na si Manny Piñol na sana matulungan niya ang boksingero ko,” Jorda said.
“Dalawang taon na mula nung laban ni Rey kay Joyi hanggang ngayon hindi pa namin nakukuha ang ipinangakong premyo sa amin. Sa matulungan nila kami,” added the llonggo boxing promoter.
Jorda narrates that they were caught by surprise after Loreto’s sensational first round knockout win over Joyi and have yet to receive any purse.
“May kontrata naman ‘yung laban at sabi nga may makukuha kami after the fight pero nung weigh in na, sinabihan kami na ipapadala na lang ‘yung premyo ni Rey sa bank account ni Manny Piñol,” Jorda said.
“Noong una, hindi ako pumayag sinabi kong dapat makuha namin ‘yung premyo after the weigh in or after the fight pero si (Piñol) sabi niya pumayag na kami dahil kilala naman daw niya ‘yung promoter,” he added.
“Until now wala pa ding nangyayari. Ang sabi ni (Piñol) kinasuhan na niya yung promoter. Tapos nanghiram din siya kay senador Manny para may maibigay lang sa amin,” he said.
“Pero ang gusto talaga namin ay makapagbayad ‘yung promoter nung fight na ‘yun kasi sila naman ‘yung may obligasyon sa amin hindi si senator Manny o kung sino pa,” Jorda concluded.

Stepping up in place of injured Paul Lee, Star Hotshots playmaker Mark Andy Barroca emerged as the second Accel-PBA Press Corps Player of the Week after leading his team to a 2-0 start in the 2017 Commissioner’s Cup.
The 5-foot-10 Barroca, drafted fifth overall by Shopinas Clickers in 2011, showed his veteran smarts and leadership at the start of the brand new conference to earn the weekly citation for the period of March 20-26.
At the start of the conference, Barroca came off the bench to provide the much needed spark, firing 17 points and adding 2 steals in 23 minutes as the Hotshots scored a 101-82 rout against the Phoenix Fuel Masters last Wednesday.
Three days later, the Zamboanga City-native Barroca churned out an all-around effort of eight points, five rebounds, the same number of assists and 2 steals, while helping the Hotshots registered a runaway 103-77 demolition of the GlobalPort Batang Pier.
The Hotshots, which finished third in the All-Filipino Conference, join the Meralco Bolts (3-0), the defending champion Rain or Shine Elasto Painters (3-0) and Alaska Aces (2-0) as the unbeaten squads this conference.
Barroca, the 2014 Philippine Cup Finals MVP, is expected to play a bigger role for the Hotshots, which looks to make a follow-up to its semifinal appearance in the Philippine Cup where it eventually lost to the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings in seven games.
The Hotshots will have several days to prepare, before returning to action against winless NLEX Road Warriors (0-3) this Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum./PN
