
MANILA – Basilan Viva Portmasters leaned on a near triple-double showing from Alex Cabagnot to defeat Mindoro Tamaraws, 84-77, in the 2025 MPBL Season on Thursday night at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.
The former PBA guard finished with 16 points, 10 assists, and nine rebounds to be named Player of the Game as the Viva Portmasters nailed their third consecutive win for a 6-7 win-loss slate.
“We just want to win our third game in a row, ‘yun lang ang motivation namin in this game,” Cabagnot, a nine-time PBA champion with the San Miguel Beermen, said in a post-game interview.
“Maganda ang competition dito sa MPBL, the players are doing their best, it’s a long season, it’s a very grueling season so sana mag–continue lang (‘yung winning streak) namin, sana we can continue collectively,” he added.
Adrian Santos led the way for the Viva Portmasters with 20 points, on an efficient 8-of-9 field goal shooting, while Jervy Cruz posted a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Jun Manzo led the way for the Tamaraws with 14 points, Wendell Comboy III added 13 markers, while Jonas Tibayan and Ashon Andrews contributed 11 and 10 markers, respectively, as they fell to a 7-8 win-loss slate.
Meanwhile, 1Bataan Risers (6-9) pulled off a massive 86-84 victory over Pasay Voyagers (8-7). Lorenz Capulong emerged as Player of the Game with 15 points and six rebounds.
Kyt Jimenez, on the other hand, recorded 23 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists as Sarangani Marlins (4-10) walloped the shorthanded Cebu Magic (4-10), 119-95./PN
