CAPIZ – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)–Capiz has raised its alert status and strengthened its disaster response efforts in light of the adverse weather brought by Tropical Storm “Crising”, which is currently intensifying the effects of the southwest monsoon in the province.

According to Senior Chief Petty Officer Arnel Nisola, deputy station commander of PCG-Capiz, the Deployable Response Group is fully prepared for rapid deployment should emergency evacuations or rescue operations be needed.

A rescue boat is also on standby as part of the unit’s floating assets, ready to respond to calls for assistance in coastal and flood-prone areas.

Although there were no flight cancellations reported in the region as of this writing, the Coast Guard remained vigilant, conducting coastal security patrols and continuously monitoring maritime activities.

To ensure safety, the PCG has temporarily prohibited small boats and fishing vessels from setting sail, citing the risk of rough seas and potential accidents. Strong wave activity and heavy rainfall are expected, particularly in coastal and low-lying areas.

The Coast Guard is urging residents to stay informed and strictly follow safety protocols, especially as weather conditions may worsen in the coming hours.

Meanwhile, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office have also issued reminders to the public to remain alert. Residents are advised to prepare emergency kits, stay updated on local weather advisories, and follow government-issued safety guidelines.

Authorities emphasized that proactive preparedness and community cooperation are crucial in minimizing the impact of disasters and protecting lives and property./PN
