CAPIZ – The Capiz Provincial Convergence Committee convened for its 2nd Quarter Meeting on July 25 at the Hall of Governors in the provincial capitol, as part of its continuing efforts to strengthen social development strategies in the province.
The meeting was presided over by Provincial Board member Trina Marie Ignacio, chairperson of the Committee on Social Services, Disaster Response and Preparedness, Women, Children and Family, and Persons with Disabilities. Representing Gov. Fredenil H. Castro, Ignacio underscored the administration’s commitment to enhancing the delivery of social services in Capiz.
Key topics discussed included updates on the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), which provides financial assistance to low-income families, and the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) aimed at creating economic opportunities and fostering self-sufficiency among vulnerable sectors.
Also highlighted were developments under the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan–Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) program, a community-driven development initiative, and the range of healthcare services currently provided by PhilHealth.
The committee reiterated its commitment to maintaining consistent service delivery, now entering its third year of continuous operation, ensuring that Capizeños — especially the marginalized — have access to essential programs and support.
In a significant move, the committee proposed the inclusion of the Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office as a deputy member of the convergence body. The recommendation seeks to strengthen efforts in supporting Indigenous Peoples (IPs) in Capiz, particularly in the preservation of cultural heritage and implementation of inclusive development programs.
This collaboration is viewed as vital in addressing the unique needs of Indigenous communities and in promoting cultural identity as part of the province’s broader development agenda./PN
