CAPIZ – Gov. Fredenil Castro suspended quarry operations in the province.
He also created an inter-agency taskforce and ordered it to address all concerns related to quarrying.
There are 19 registered mountain quarry operators and 35 registered commercial sand and gravel quarry operators in Capiz, data from the Capiz Provincial Environmental Resources Office (CAPENRO) showed.
But there are 30 more with pending permit applications.
The suspension of quarry operations took effect on July 11. It is indefinite.
Among others, the inter-agency taskforce would review the process flow in the approval of applications for quarry operation.
It also intends to conduct an ocular inspection of quarry sites.
