CAPIZ – The Department of Health region 6 (DOH-6) has recognized Capiz as the top-performing province in the implementation of the National Voluntary Blood Services Program (NVBSP) in the region.

According to 2024 data, Capiz recorded 15,296 blood donations, equivalent to 1.87% of its population — the highest donation rate among the six provinces of Western Visayas.

During the 2025 National Blood Donors Month Collective Conference held on July 3 in Iloilo City, Capiz was cited as the only province in Region 6, along with all its 16 municipalities and one city, that surpassed the national blood donation target of at least 1% of the population.

Records show that Capiz has consistently met or exceeded the 1% annual blood collection target since 2019, an achievement unmatched by any other province in the region.

Representing Capiz at the awarding ceremony were NVBSP Manager Jay B. Agarrado and Supervising Administrative Officer Ayr R. Altavas of the Capiz Provincial Health Office (PHO).

Officials of the PHO attributed this milestone to the collaborative efforts of the Capiz Provincial Government, under the leadership of Gov. Fredenil H. Castro, the PHO led by Dr. Alex T. Nolasco, the Philippine Red Cross – Capiz Chapter headed by Administrator Raymundo P. Martinez, RMT, as well as local government units, national government agencies, hospitals and other health facilities, and partner organizations and stakeholders.

The PHO also encouraged the public to continue supporting voluntary blood donation programs to help meet the demand for safe blood not only in Capiz but also in neighboring provinces./PN
