Capiz police team up with media, schools to combat crime

CAPIZ – To reduce criminality and enhance crime prevention efforts in the province, the Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO) is partnering with media outlets and both secondary and tertiary schools through Project TEKMEN, also known as “Technology Against Illegal Drugs, Terrorism, and Crime.”

The said project aims to speed up reports on crimes, monitoring efforts, and emergency response in times of incidents with the use of social media platforms and technology, in collaboration with academic institutions.

The effective utilization of digital platforms may lead to efficient coordination and communication with law enforcement agencies, such as police forces, in case of emergencies.

“Project TEKMEN will not only enhance the speed and precision of police response, but it will also empower communities to become active partners in maintaining peace and order,” said Police Colonel Albert Tapulao, CPPO director.

He added: “By combining public vigilance and participation with technological innovation, we can make Capiz safer, smarter, and more secure.”

In support of the provincial government, the Project TEKMEN, as a pioneering initiative, incorporates user-friendly mobile applications to curb the illegal drug trade and solve criminal incidents, and track down hit-and-run cases that are a pressing problem within the community. The project intends not only to boost the efficiency of police forces but also to actively engage citizens in the process, to educate, and build public awareness.

Among the schools that are partners with CPPO are Capiz State University (CAPSU), Filamer Christian University (FCU), Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion (CPC), Hercor College, and Capiz National High School (CNHS) under the Department of Education (DepEd).To intensify community safety efforts, media agencies in the province have allied with the police to share critical information regarding public safety initiatives and ongoing anti-criminality campaigns.

In general, the project aims to safeguard peace by informing the public about crime prevention strategies and alerting them to potential safety concerns in the region./PN
