CAPIZ – Dengue cases in this province listed from January 1 to April 19 have reached 570, 56.59 percent higher than the cases logged in the same period last year.
Data from the Provincial Health Office (PHO) showed that of the 17 local government units (LGUs), Roxas City reported the highest number of cases at 194, followed by Tapaz (72 cases), Jamindan (39), Mambusao (31),and Panay (30)
Other cases were recorded in Panitan (25), Dao (23), Pontevedra (22), Dumalag (20), Dumarao (20), Maayon (18), Sigma (16), President Roxas (14), Ivisan (13), Pilar (12), Sapian (12), and Cuartero (nine).
Moreover, the province has so far recorded one death this year, representing a 0.18% fatality rate.
Meanwhile, areas with clustering of dengue cases are Barangay Manibad in Mambusao, and barangays Tanque and Dinginan in Roxas City.
PHO data further showed that the youngest person who contracted dengue was 10 months old while the oldest was 90 years old. The majority of those affected were between 10 and 19 years old.
As the mosquito-borne disease cases continue to rise, the provincial government, through the PHO, intensified its active surveillance, plans, and strategies to combat dengue through its province-wide campaign Lamok Buster.
“Protektahi ang Imo Balay, Protektahi ang Imo Pinalangga: Mag-upod sa Gugma Lamok Buster Campaign” serves as the campaign tagline of the province.
The said campaign aims to educate the public about dengue and amplify voices in promoting cleanliness as a preventive and control measure against the spread of the disease./PN
