CAPIZ — The Provincial Health Office (PHO) of Capiz reported seven suspected cases of monkeypox (mpox) with no confirmed infections as of yet.
This was disclosed by Dr. Ramon Alex Nolasco during the Provincial Board meeting held on June 17, 2025, at the Capiz Provincial Capitol.
According to Dr. Nolasco, all seven individuals exhibited symptoms that closely resemble chickenpox, which often overlap with those of mpox. They were immediately placed in isolation while their specimens were sent to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine–Special Pathogens Laboratory (RITM-SPL) for confirmatory testing.
“These individuals have completed their 21-day quarantine and are now awaiting clearance from their respective Municipal Health Officers,” Dr. Nolasco said. “Clearance will only be granted once RITM confirms that the test results are negative.”
Health authorities assured that swift and effective containment measures were implemented to prevent a potential spread. The PHO emphasized that close contacts of the suspected patients are also being closely monitored and subjected to a 21-day quarantine.
As of June 17, the breakdown of suspected mpox cases per area includes two cases in Dumalag, and one case each in the municipalities of Jamindan, Pilar, Pontevedra, Sapian, and in Roxas City.
Dr. Nolasco reminded the public that mpox typically begins as a rash, which develops into lesions resembling blisters. “It’s important to recognize these symptoms early,” he added.
While awaiting the lab results, the PHO, in coordination with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), is actively monitoring all 473 barangays in the province to strengthen community surveillance.
The PHO also clarified that mpox testing is free and encouraged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities to safeguard the health and safety of all Capisnons./PN
