Capiz vehicular accident death toll reaches 17 in 6 months — CPPO

CAPIZ – Seventeen people have died in vehicular accidents in this province from January 1 to June 11, 2025, according to data released by the Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO), raising concerns among authorities.

Police Captain Merry Chris Dela Cruz, CPPO’s Public Information Officer, reported that April registered the highest number of fatalities with five deaths, followed by January with four, May with three, two each in March and June, and one in February.

Roxas City and the municipality of Ivisan recorded the most accident cases, with four incidents each.

In total, CPPO recorded 687 vehicular accidents throughout the province during the six-month period.

Dela Cruz cited multiple contributing factors to the rise in road mishaps. Chief among them is the lack of proper education on road safety among some drivers. Poor road conditions — particularly those caused by ongoing construction projects and extreme weather — also pose significant hazards.

Additionally, the involvement of motorists driving under the influence of alcohol continues to be a major concern, impairing both judgment and reaction time.

In light of these alarming statistics, the CPPO is calling on the public, especially motorists, to strictly observe traffic rules and regulations, drive responsibly, and prioritize safety to reduce accidents and save lives./PN
