CARLA Abellana and Edu Manzano were among the celebrities who continued to express dismay after photos of stacks of “stolen money” on the office table of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) were released.
Several photos showing piles of money stacked on a DPWH office table were presented at the House of Representatives’ probe into anomalous flood control projects on Tuesday, Sept. 9.
Abellana was one of the first celebrities to react by sharing a screenshot on her Instagram page of the news story displaying the cash said to be linked to corruption. “Ayun ‘yung pera ko oh. Nakita ko na,” the actress wrote in her caption.
Manzano, on the other hand, took the shade up a notch by uploading an AI-generated photo of himself joyfully eating chicharon bulaklak (deep-friend pork ruffle) with a massive pile of cash on a pool table and on the floor as the backdrop. As an added feature, an image of American actor Dywane Johnson could be seen hauling a box of cash.
“Caption this. Ano ang mas nakaka-high blood? Ang chicharon bulaklak o ang pinaghirapan ninyong tax pesos sa lamesang bilyar?” he lamented.
Abellana and Manzano were not the only ones echoing the frustration of the people watching the scenes unfold at the House hearing.
News anchors Karen Davila and Jervi Wrightson, also known as KaladKaren, lamented the billions of taxpayer’s money lost to politicians and public officials as kickbacks.
“This is where our taxes go. Billions in kickbacks to politicians and members of the DPWH. This post is from Pasig City Mayor [Vico Sotto’s] IG stories. Isipin n’yo hundreds of millions in cash, nasa opisina at ipinambabayad na kickback? SOP daw sa senador – 30% kada infra project?! Philippines, what a tragedy. People have to be made accountable,” said Davila in her X post.
Kaladkaren said she was horrified when she saw the image being plastered on her screen during the hearing.
Given the continuous revelations regarding corruption in the Philippines, Pokwang lifted it up to the Lord to look after the country, expressing her hope that the officials involved would receive the punishment they deserve.
Aside from the aforementioned, Anne Curtis, Bianca Gonzalez, Nadine Lustre, Mika Salamanca, Kris Bernal, Gabbi Garcia, Jodi Sta. Maria, Sarah Geronimo, Matteo Guidecelli, Andi Eigenmann, Karylle, MJ Lastimosa, Lexi Gonzales, have earlier expressed their frustration at the rampant corruption in the use of funds for flood control projects.
