MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte appointed Court of Appeals Justice Ricardo Rosario as the new Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, spokesperson Brian Keith Hosaka confirmed.
Rosario will replace former Associate Justice Jose Reyes Jr. who retired last September. The newly-appointed High Court magistrate bested 12 other applicants vying for the post. He took oath Friday afternoon.
The 62-year-old Rosario obtained his law degree at the Ateneo de Manila University in 1983 and passed the Bar Exams in 1984.
He worked as legal officer at the National Bureau of Investigation and senior corporate attorney at the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System prior to his appointment as senior assistant city prosecutor in Quezon City in 1994.
In 1997, he was tapped as metropolitan trial court judge in Manila and later as regional trial court judge in Makati. He was appointed to the Court of Appeals in September 2005.
Rosario was the 10th appointee of President Duterte giving him a clear majority on pending crucial cases involving the administration./PN
