CAPIZ – A 31-year-old farm worker was fatally stabbed by a chief tanod in Barangay Poblacion Tabuc, Maayo town early morning on July 10, and the suspect remained at large.
The victim, identified as alias “Bernard,” was a resident of Barangay Tuburan. The suspect, meanwhile, was known only by the alias “Zardo.”
Initial police investigation revealed that the stabbing followed a heated altercation between the two on the night before the incident. During the argument, Zardo’s son — allegedly under the influence of alcohol — punched Bernard, escalating tensions between the families.
The following morning, at around 6:30 a.m., Bernard was having coffee at a nearby sari-sari store when the suspect approached him and stabbed him in the stomach with a long bladed weapon.
Despite being wounded, the victim managed to flee, but the suspect chased him down and stabbed him twice more on the right side of the chest, before fleeing the scene on a motorcycle.
Bernard was rushed to Bailan District Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival by attending physicians.
As of this writing, the Maayon Municipal Police Station (MPS) continues to pursue leads and conduct a hot pursuit operation to locate and apprehend the suspect./PN
