ILOILO City – A job hire of the city government was peppered with bullets in Zone 5, Barangay San Juan, Molo district on Friday night. Riding-in-tandem assailants were reportedly behind the crime.
Glenn Peremne, 42, was a resident of Barangay Calaparan, Arevalo district. He was assigned at the Iloilo Fish Port Complex in Barangay Tanza Baybay here.
Onboard his motorcycle, Peremne was homebound around 9:05 p.m. when attacked.
“Based on our investigation, one of the suspects wearing a facemask and helmet shot the victim from behind using a .9mm-caliber pistol,” said Police Major Marlyn Roquero, chief of the Molo police station.
The victim sustained four gunshot wounds, Roquero said, but they recovered from the crime scene five empty shells compatible to a .9mm-caliber pistol.
No one has so far been named a suspect, said Roquero, though they have three persons of interest who were fish port workers.
“We already have the names of the three persons, but we could not mention them yet because we are still conducting our investigation,” she added.
According to the victim’s wife, Peremne had a misunderstanding with a certain person at his workplace. He later received a text message telling him to “take care”.
On the other hand, Police Colonel Uldarico Garbanzos, director of the Iloilo City Police Office, once again directed his men to intensify police visibility.
“Conduct 24-hour checkpoint. Deploy more police personnel to the field,” Garbanzos said.
He also sent augmentation personnel to the Molo police station to help hasten the investigation.
Meanwhile, Dr. Justo Anaquita, Iloilo Fish Port Complex spokesperson, said in a radio interview that the victim had been helping in the implementation of health protocols in the area.
The victim was the younger brother of Senior Superintendent Gilbert Peremne, deputy director for administration of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Region 6./PN
