Closure of Bacolod restobar mulled

BACOLOD City – Executive Assistant Sammy Montoyo said he will recommend the closure of Peats and Beans – the restobar where the viral “twerking” incident happened – at the City Legal Office.

The “video scandal” that was recorded at around 2 a.m. on Sept. 2 at the establishment was an “act against decency and morality,” Montoyo stressed.

The video went viral on Facebook and caught the attention of the city government and other government agencies.

Montoyo said Peats and Beans has applied for business permit as a coffee shop in January, but operated as a restobar.

After the police and the Joint Inspection Team of the city government’s Permits and Licensing Division conducted an inspection, the establishment applied for a new permit.

But Montoyo said the application has been put on hold pending the results of the investigation conducted by the Women and Children’s Protection Desk.

Village Chief Raymundo Salaveria of Barangay 5, where Peats and Beans is located, said he, his barangay officials, and personnel from Department of Social Services and Development have also inspected the establishment since they observed that most of its customers are minors.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia and Councilor Cindy Rojas have ordered the city police to closely monitor Peats and Beans in line with City Ordinance No. 450, which “prohibits the sale of liquor, beer and other intoxicants to persons below 18 years old.”/PN
