WHAT better way to start the week than by talking politics, particularly about politicians and their followers’ desperate attempt to save themselves, hence “clutching at straws”.
Leni Robredo will not win. Dyeing everything pink from food to knickers and canceling those not in their narrative won’t work. Even disqualifying Bongbong Marcos will just transfer most of his voters to Isko Moreno, Manny Pacquiao and even Ping Lacson.
Recent survey results show Isko is now second while Leni is fighting it out with Manny for third – meanwhile Bongbong Marcos is beyond the reach of gravity and light years ahead as No. 1.
Doing another “Andy Bautista” at the Comelec (there are already indications) will just prompt Digong to call for failure of elections, maybe even declare Martial Law to save the republic and remain as holdover president till the mess is sorted out.
Meanwhile, something happened at the Comelec that once more destroyed the hopes of the “devotees to the cult of the yellow ribbon” now dyed pink of ever having the slightest chance of Leni Robredo having a semblance of winning.
Excerpts from the Jan. 19, 2022 issue of The Manila Times:
Anti-Marcos petitioners hit for ‘deceit’
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) slammed the group that tried to deceive the poll body to cancel the certificate of candidacy (CoC) for president of former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
Comelec did not simply dismiss by unanimous vote the petition to cancel Marcos’ CoC “but went ahead to discuss what it described as a deliberate attempt by the petitioners to deceive the poll body.”
“Since the instant petition, which is one for cancellation or denial of due course of a CoC invoked grounds for disqualification, the instant petition should be summarily dismissed,” according to Presiding Commissioner Socorro Inting.
The ruling “enumerated the attempts of the petitioners to mislead the poll body with their allegations and misrepresentations of facts and wrong quotations of certain provisions of the law.”
“Petitioners shamelessly cited a certain provision denominated as Section 254 of the 1977 NIRC (National Internal Revenue Code) which they alleged such provision punishes those who fail to file an ITR (income tax return) fine of not less than P10,000 ‘and’ imprisonment,” read another portion of the ruling.
“However, a careful reading of the actual Section 254 of the 1977 NIRC shows that it refers to rentals and royalties and mineral lands under lease,” it added.
The misrepresentation made by the petitioners on Section 254 of the NIRC to make it appear that imprisonment is mandatory punishment “reeks of deliberate intent to deceive or mislead the Commission,” the ruling read.
Commissioners Antonio Kho, Jr. and Rey Bulay concurred with the ruling, which lamented what it called an “obvious clutching at straws,” or a desperate attempt, by the petitioners to convince the poll body to cancel the CoC of Marcos.
“It somehow becomes ironic when we realize the thought that herein petitioners accuse respondent Marcos of misrepresentation while they themselves are guilty of supposed misrepresentations in this very same proceeding,” the Comelec said.
It’s the height of irony that the petitioners in the disqualification case against Bongbong Marcos are the ones that did the misrepresentation, according to the Comelec Second Division, hence the case were dismissed.
On the other hand, Comelec Division One Commissioner Rowena Guanzon should inhibit herself from the Bongbong Marcos disqualification cases out of delicadeza and fair play as she is already engaged in an online tussle with the lawyer of Marcos and her post and comments on social media show biased against Marcos, not to mention that she is a closet supporter of Leni Robredo.
But of course we should try to view the antics of Commissioner Weng with benevolence and understanding she’s just trying to squeeze every moment for her last hurrah in the limelight. You see, she’s going to retire this Feb.y2 and will soon be irrelevant.
And speaking of losers, Christine Cunanan’s ABL (Anyone But Leni) has succeeded in uniting Filipinos against a common cause – just shows you that most Filipinos are disgusted with the hypocrisy and holier-than-thou attitude of the “devotees to the cult of the yellow ribbon” now dyed pink.
Finally, 45 years ago if you’re a leftist, anti-Marcos, anti-martial law and shouting “democracy is dead” and “bring back press freedom”, you’re a naive, impressionable but idealistic youth… 45 years later if you’re a leftist, anti-Marcos, anti-martial law and shouting “democracy and press freedom are dead”, you’re just a stupid idiot.
The only difference is that 45 years ago you’re wearing a t-shirt with Che Guevara or Chairman Mao printed in front and a red guard cap with the ubiquitous red star; now you’re in an all-pink outfit including your knickers. But don’t worry, the song remains the same. You’re still a stupid idiot. (brotherlouie16@gmail.com)/PN
