AKLAN – The Kalibo Señor Sto. Niño Ati-Atihan Festival 2026 officially kicked off yesterday, October 8, as the Aklan Provincial Health Office (PHO) raised a “code white” alert from October 8 to 12, 2025, to ensure the preparedness of hospitals and local health units for potential medical emergencies during the highly anticipated opening salvo.

Next year’s edition of the festival carries the theme “KAEAS, KASANGAG, KASADYA!” symbolizing faith, unity, and joy. KAEAS represents the awakening of devotion to the Holy Child, KASANGAG signifies the rhythmic drumbeats and chants uniting participants in praise, and KASADYA embodies the shared happiness and vibrant celebrations filling Kalibo’s streets.

Organizers expect around 85 participating tribes from across Aklan, which will likely result in heavy traffic and road closures along the Sadsad routes. Attendees are advised to plan ahead, stay vigilant, and follow official schedules posted on municipal Ati-Atihan Facebook pages.

The opening salvo is a prelude to the grand festivities in January 2026, drawing visitors and devotees from across the country. The PHO memorandum emphasizes proactive monitoring and vigilance by medical agencies to promptly address any emergencies. Officers and health personnel on duty are instructed to remain alert and coordinate with the Provincial Health Operations Center for swift response.

“The opening salvo is not only a celebration of faith and culture but also a reminder of our responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants,” said Dr. Leslie Ann L. Sedillo, Aklan PHO Provincial Health Officer.

Festival-goers are encouraged to enjoy the celebration responsibly, immerse in the colorful culture of Aklan, and join in the unified cheer of Viva kay Señor Sto. Niño! Viva!/PN
