ILOILO – To bring healthcare closer to remote barangays in Calinog, Mayor Francisco Calvo commissioned the construction of a community hospital in Barangay Caratagan.
The local government unit (LGU) allocated P12 million – with an additional P5 million from the provincial government and Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. – to build the project.
The nearest hospital from the barangay is the Dr. Ricardo S. Provido Memorial District Hospital (DRSPMDH), a 30-kilometer ride.
“Mas matawhay na sa ila kon magkinahanglan sila sang emergency nga pagbulong kay ti may marapit na nga ospital sa ila,” Calvo told Panay News.
People in over five barangays close to Barangay Caratagan can avail themselves of the services to be offered by the community hospital, Calvo added.
The mayor is also planning to hire two doctors, nurses and a midwife once the construction is finished.
He also plans to procure an X-ray machine and an ambulance.
The hospital will start providing general check-ups and consultations until they can afford more medical equipment and expand services./PN
