Contreras concedes, asks Capiznons to support Castro; Dadivas remains as mayor of Roxas

CAPIZ – Reelectionist governor Esteban Evan “Nonoy” Contreras conceded to his challenger, 2nd District’s congressman and now governor-elect Fredenil “Oto” Castro.

Castro dethroned Contreras by a wide margin of votes. He got 249,672 votes against the sitting governor’s 149,339 and another opponent Elmer Villasis with 2,657 votes, based on the partial, unofficial results aggregated from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) as of 2:02 p.m. of May 10, and from 98.57 percent of Election Returns.

In a pre-recorded statement of concession, Contreras said he respects the decision of the people and congratulated Castro.

He also appealed to the people of Capiz to give their support to the incoming provincial government administration.

“Let’s accept the result of the latest election and move forward kag magbinuligay kita para sa aton pinalangga nga Capiz,” said Contreras.

The governor also thanked the Capiznons for their support to him for the past three years as governor.

He likewise expressed his appreciation to all the capitol department heads and employees for their hard work and dedication, especially during times of crisis.

“My greatest gratitude…and you will always be part of my life. I have given my very best for the betterment of Capiz and I’m very grateful una sa Ginuo kag sa tanan nga Capiznon for giving me the opportunity to serve Capiz,” he added.

Meanwhile, in Roxas City, Mayor Ronnie Dadivas successfully defended his post against challenger Rommel Lastimoso.

Dadivas garnered a total of 62,381 votes while Lastimo got 22,740 votes based on the partial, unofficial results./PN
