NEGROS Occidental – Authorities arrested a police officer and his companion for alleged gun running in Barangay Robles, La Castellana town on Wednesday, September 24.
The suspects were identified as Patrolman Genesis Daing Gimay, 31, assigned to the Cebu City Police Office Mobile Force Company, and Niño Napoleon Colmenares Ligason, 31, a jobless resident of Barangay Robles.
Police confiscated from the suspects a KG-9 sub-machine pistol without serial number, a magazine and 10 rounds of .9mm ammunition, a Philippine National Police-issued .9mm GERSAN pistol, additional ammunition, and a black holster.
Also seized were buy-bust money, boodle cash amounting to ₱22,900, and a silver Toyota Vios with plate number GBY 7507.
The operation executed by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group–Regional Field Unit Negros Island Region (CIDG RFU NIR), together with the La Castellana Municipal Police Station, was part of Oplan Paglalansag-Omega.
CIDG said the operation was covered by a pre-operational clearance and compliant with Supreme Court guidelines, with on-site inventory and alternative recording devices used.
The suspects are now in the custody of the CIDG RFU NIR for documentation and filing of charges for violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act). (Watchmen Daily Journal)/PN
