CEBU City – A barangay that lost all of its officials to an Office of the Ombudsman suspension order will have a police officer as “caretaker” starting today.

Mayor Tomas Osmeña named Senior Police Officer 1 Adonis Dumpit as caretaker of Ermita.

Barangay Captain Felicisimo “Imok” Rupinta and council members Marky Rizaldy Miral, Antonieto Flores, Ryan Jay Rosas, Alio Tamundo, Domingo Ando, Maria Buanghug, and Wilbert Flores started serving their six-month preventive suspension on Jan. 31.

They were found to have failed to cooperate in an antidrug operation.

Earlier the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) tasked Councilor Dave Tumulak to fill in while the officials serve their suspension.

But Osmeña decided to have Dumpit do it instead.

If the city government wants to rid the village of its drug problem, having Dumpit is more fitting; drug lords fear the police officer more than the councilor, the mayor said.

Dumpit was among the three nominees Osmeña referred to the DILG as prospective replacement for the suspended barangay captain.

Osmeña said this might be their only chance to crack down on illegal drugs in the barangay and clean up the community. (PNA)
