Coping with the emergency

IT IS GOOD that Iloilo City has always observed cleanliness in our streets and in our environment as pursued by Iloilo City’s Mayor Jerry P. Treñas.

We also successfully imposed a curfew and “stay-at-home” policy. In trying times like this, we hope that the protective measures adopted by our city during the emergency would continue to get the full support and cooperation of our residents.

Because we are a country of islands, it is possible to strongly “lock out” areas in case of an epidemic like this virus attack. Panay, and we might mention Iloilo City and Iloilo province in particular, has responded effectively to the emergency and protected itself strongly from the spread of the virus by imposing strict travel restrictions and controls in their respective areas.

We are happy that Iloilo City has a very good barangay organization that coordinates and actively responds to the policies set out by our city mayor as passed down the line for effective implementation during emergencies like this epidemic. Let us also continue to pray to the Lord for stronger protection of our homes during this critical time.

Aside from praying, in our case, this brought out the “poet” in us. We are sharing with you below a poem we wrote in Hiligaynon because of this homestay.

SA DIIN KA NA BALA?

Nene, mahal ko, sa diin ka na  bala?

Ngaa hinali lang ikaw nadula?

Naglakat nga wala paalam,

Adlaw-adlaw kita ginapangita.

Nagpangita ako sa imo

Abut  Mindanao sa lugar ninyo,

Wala man balita ang mga himata mo

Kon sa diin ikaw nagkadto.

Apang sang isa ka gab-i,

Agud pirme ikaw malipayon!

GEM OF THOUGHT

Confession of a congressman: “Frankly, I am getting tired, err… not of the job but of the elections. People come and see you during the campaign and you have to give them P100, P200 or P500; it depends what Kap whispers to you. I do not like it.”
