ILOILO City – Not all establishments at Smallville Complex in Barangay San Rafael, Mandurriao district have security guards?
The chief of the Mandurriao police station urged establishments there to hire security guards to keep their businesses peaceful and orderly, and specifically to apprehend youngsters violating the curfew ordinance for minors.
“The police could not do this alone. We need the help of the owners of the business establishments,” said Chief Inspector Juvy Navales.
Navales said she recently received a report that an inebriated youngster passed out at a Smallville discotheque and needed medical attention.
The Iloilo City Emergency Response (ICER) team responded to the medical emergency.
Navales said the discotheque may face sanctions for, among others, letting a minor in.
Under Regulation Ordinance No. 2016- 230, minors (those below 18 years old) are prohibited from loitering beyond 10 p.m. in restaurants, nightclubs, motels, dancehalls, amusement places such as internet cafes, video arcades, karaoke bars, billiard halls, beach resorts and other similar establishments.
Also under the curfew ordinance, minors are prohibited from selling or vending whatever items (including food and beverages) even with their parents or guardians around, and its shall be unlawful for business establishments to admit minors within their premises during curfew hours (10 p.m. to 4 .m.).
Recently, Mayor Jose Espinosa III also issued Executive Order No. 146 mandating the closure by 2 a.m. of all establishments in the city serving intoxicating liquor.
Prior to the alcohol curfew, Mandurriao policemen had been unable to prevent trouble at Smallville. Most of those involved in past incidents were drunk youngsters.
According to Espinosa the unregulated dispensation of alcoholic drinks resulted to the improper and harmful conduct and behavior of consumers./PN
