ILOILO – Typhoon “Crising” has caused over P52 million worth of damage to vital infrastructure across Western Visayas, with Aklan and Antique provinces bearing the heaviest toll, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 6.
The storm’s impact also displaced more than 33,000 families across four provinces and destroyed 179 homes, highlighting the widespread disruption it left in its wake.
Based on DPWH’s Calamity Damaged Infrastructure Report, Aklan alone accounted for approximately P43 million in losses, while Antique recorded P9 million.
Among the hardest-hit structures were the Aklan River Revetment in Barangay Mobo, Kalibo — crucial for flood protection — and Tigum Bridge in Barangay Tigum, Buruangan, a key transport artery.
Antique also reported damaged flood control works in three bridges and structural impairment at Abierra Bridge in Sebaste.
The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Western Visayas confirmed that 179 houses were destroyed — 93 in Aklan, 64 in Antique, and 22 in Iloilo — further compounding the plight of affected families.
In total, “Crising” affected 33,610 families or 118,477 individuals in the region. Of these, 656 families (2,155 individuals) sought shelter in 73 evacuation centers, while 2,270 families (8,497 individuals) received aid outside evacuation centers.
Breakdown of affected families and individuals per province:
* Antique (239 barangays) – 22,729 families (73,565 individuals)
* Iloilo (76 barangays) – 4,852 families (16,856 individuals)
* Capiz (19 barangays) – 4,442 families (22,112 individuals)
* Aklan (27 barangays) – 1,587 families (5,944 individuals)
As the region reels from the aftermath, DPWH Region 6 and other members of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council continue damage assessments and recovery planning.
Although “Crising” exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday, July 19, the southwest monsoon remains active, bringing continued rains to the already battered region./PN
