MANILA – Veteran spiker Rachel Anne Daquis is surprisingly left without a team to play for in the Philippine Superliga following the decision of the RC Cola-Army Lady Troopers to not participate in the upcoming season.
The former Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws stalwart admitted that there are several teams pitching offers to her but has yet to decide on which squad she will suit up for next.
“Meron naman nang nagtatanong sa akin na mga teams pero sa ngayon wala pa akong decision,” said Daquis. “Siyempre I have to play for another team since the Army is not participating (next season).”
“Siyempre matagal na ko dito (sa Army), Army parin talaga. Andun yung comfort zone ko e. So pag andyan naman yung Army, talagang sa Army ako. Pero pag wala, siyempre yun yung chance na makapaglaro sa iba,” she added.
Sources told Panay News that among the parties interested in tapping the services of Daquis are two-time champions Petron Tri-Activ Spikers and the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers.
Daquis had previously played and won championships with the Tri-Activ Spikers. She will also be a good addition for the Tri-Activ Spikers following the decision of Christine Joy Rosario to discontinue her volleyball career.
In case she joins the Cargo Movers’ team, Daquis will be reunited with her former Tri-Activ Spikers and national volleyball teammate Abigail Maraño. However, the Open Hitter position is crowded in the Cargo Movers.
The Lady Troopers were forced not to participate in the upcoming Philippine Superliga season with almost half of its players set to undergo eight-month military training with the Philippine Army./PN
