Deadly Black Saturday: Leganes exec’s son shot dead; gunman unidentified, at large

ILOILO City – A supposed act of chivalry turned bloody on Black Saturday. A son of a Sangguniang Bayan (SB) member of Leganes, Iloilo was shot dead by a suspected robber at the Metropolis residential subdivision in Barangay Tagbak, Jaro district here.

The 19-year-old Carl Dominic Labuson of Manuela Subdivision, Barangay Cari Minor, Leganes died of gunshot wounds to the head and chest, a police report showed.

According to the initial investigation of Police Captain Eduardo Siacon, chief of the Jaro police station, it was around 7:30 p.m. when Labuson went out to buy at a convenience store.

While riding his motorcycle, he happened to pass by her neighbor’s store. He then heard this neighbor screaming for help because a man was trying to rob her.

Upon sensing Labuson’s presence, the robber fled onboard a black motorcycle. He was bound for Iloilo City.

“The victim then chased the suspect up to Tagbak. Perhaps there was a confrontation and the victim did not know the suspect had a gun,” Siacon narrated.

The victim – son of SB member Larry Labuson – was rushed to the Metro Iloilo Hospital and Medical Center where he expired.

Recovered from the crime scene were two empty shells of a .9mm-caliber pistol.

Meanwhile, Police Colonel Uldarico Garbanzos, director of the Iloilo City Police Office, said he already sent his intelligence personnel to help the Jaro police station in their ongoing investigation.

As this was being written, the gunman remained unidentified.

Garbanzos said they are now securing a closed circuit television (CCTV) footage. Witnesses have also been interviewed. Police are also coordinating with the victim’s family.

Mayor Jerry Treñas, on the other hand, wanted a speedy investigation on the case.

“I call on the PNP (Philippine National Police) to do everything they can to bring in the perpetrators. Iloilo City will never tolerate violent incidents in our beloved place. This is not the way things are done in a civilized society,” said Treñas./PN
