ILOILO City – A delivery rider was gunned down on Saturday night, May 3, in Barangay Tabuc Suba, La Paz district, following a misunderstanding triggered by a noise on a neighbor’s rooftop.
The victim identified as 34-year-old Ricky Doronila was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival after sustaining four gunshot wounds to the leg, abdomen, and head.
Police immediately launched a manhunt for the suspect, alias “Ronald”, approximately 40 years old, a security guard, and a resident of the same barangay. He remained at large as of press time.
Authorities appealed to the public for any leads on the suspect’s whereabouts, urging anyone with information to contact the nearest police station.
According to Captain Tranquelino Querubin, officer-in-charge of the La Paz police station, the suspect was drinking with a friend at a nearby house when they heard a loud thud on the roof. The suspect allegedly stepped outside and saw Doronila tidying up his yard. He confronted him, believing he had thrown something onto the roof.
Although Doronila denied the accusation and the confrontation did not escalate into a full-blown argument, tensions were evident, police said. The suspect’s companion reportedly intervened to de-escalate the situation. But moments after he left, gunshots rang out.
Witnesses said they returned to find Doronila bleeding on the ground.
Police recovered eight empty shells from a suspected .9mm pistol from the scene.
They were also looking into personal grudge and possible intoxication as motives for the killing./PN
