BACOLOD City – More dengue deaths have been recorded in this city despite the declining cases, according to the City Health Office (CHO).

For Morbidity Week 36 (August 31 to September 6), CHO data showed that the number of deaths was at six while cases dropped to 811.

CHO said the aforementioned number of cases is 42.4 percent lower than the 1,406 infections and three deaths recorded during the same period last year.

The latest dengue death was a two-year-old girl from Barangay Mandalagan. The first five fatalities were from barangays Alijis, Mansilingan, Handumanan, Villamonte, and Vista Alegre.

Dr. Grace Tan, chief of the CHO’s Environmental Sanitation Division, advised the public not to be complacent especially during this rainy season despite the decline in cases.

The CHO reminded the residents anew to always maintain cleanliness in their surroundings and practice the 4 o’clock habit to prevent dengue.

Dengue is a viral infection transmitted to humans through the bite of infected mosquitoes, primarily the Aedes aegypti species.

Its signs and symptoms include sudden onset of high fever which may last from two to seven days, joint and muscle pains and pain behind the eyes, weakness, and skin rashes, among others.

“Immediately seek medical consultation at the earliest signs of dengue,” Tan added./PN
