BACOLOD City — The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) in this city has acquired 35 new vehicles to enhance barangays’ mobility and readiness during emergencies and disaster situations.
The vehicles were formally inspected and blessed during a ceremony led by DILG Bacolod City director Christian Nagaynay on Thursday, October 9, at SM City Bacolod.
Funding for the procurement came from the Department of Budget and Management’s Local Government Support Fund (DBM–LGSF) and is expected to strengthen barangays’ capacity in emergency and disaster response operations.
“This project represents our continuing effort to ensure that every community in Bacolod is disaster-ready,” Nagaynay said.
He added that the fund allocation was facilitated by the office of former congressman, now Mayor Greg Gasataya, in 2023 and 2024.
“More units are coming and will be inspected later this year,” Nagaynay announced, expressing optimism that barangay-level services will further improve. He also reminded barangay officials to use the government vehicles responsibly, emphasizing that they are strictly for official and emergency-related purposes.
The blessing of the vehicles coincided with the opening of the Barangay Exhibit, where all 61 barangays showcased their best practices and innovative programs in disaster preparedness and response.
The exhibit is part of the celebration “Pabugal sa Barangay: Barangay Fiesta of Service and Excellence”, marking the 34th Local Government Code Month under the theme “Pagpalambo 2025: Nurturing Local Governance, Stronger Together.”
The event was organized by DILG Bacolod in partnership with the City Government of Bacolod, Liga ng mga Barangay – Bacolod City Chapter, Office of the Lone District of Bacolod, Sangguniang Kabataan – Bacolod City Chapter, and other local stakeholders./PN
