ILOILO – Active overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) departing from Iloilo can now avail themselves of discounted domestic airfares, thanks to a collaboration between the government and the business sector.
This initiative of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Region 6 and a partner airline, which provides 5 to 10 percent discounts on both one-way and round-trip tickets, is exclusive to OFWs and covers all domestic destinations originating from Iloilo. It is available until July 31, 2025.
OWWA Region 6 director James Mendiola said this is a timely and meaningful gesture of appreciation for the sacrifices and economic contributions of the estimated 400,000 OFWs in Western Visayas.
To qualify for the discount, OFWs must present either a valid Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC), a Certificate of Employment, or a Seaman’s Book for seafarers.
Tickets may be purchased through the OWWA partner airline’s Iloilo ticket office or from authorized travel agents in the city and province.
The program, which was first introduced in March this year, underscores efforts to make air travel more accessible for OFWs during their visits to and from their home provinces./PN
