‘Don’t overindulge on food this holiday season’

ILOILO City – This holiday season, do not overindulge on food, most especially fatty, sweet and salty food, according to the Department of Health (DOH) in Western Visayas.

“Christmas is celebrated with parties usually serving sumptuous dishes. While enjoying, please do remember to maintain a healthy lifestyle,” said Dr. Marlyn Convocar, DOH Region 6 director.

She stressed the importance of observing proper diet and exercising regularly to burn excess fat and calories.

Those with hypertension must control their eating, said Convocar.

If possible, stay away from lechon and food high in cholesterol, she stressed.

“To those with health conditions needing maintenance medicine, do not forget to take them,” added Convocar.

“Kis-a sa sobra naton nga kaon, malimtan naton ang maintenance medicine, so daku ang chances nga ma-atake kita sa corazon, mataas ang blood pressure,” she explained.

Convocar also stressed the importance of moderation when indulging in alcoholic beverages.

“Don’t drink if you are driving, or don’t drive if you are drinking to avoid accidents,” she added.

The DOH director reminded Ilonggos, too, to protect themselves from inclement weather and the cold temperature, most especially in the early morning.

Get immunized from pneumonia and influenza, among others, said Convocar.

Get a good night’s sleep and drink plenty of water, she added./PN
