ROXAS City – The expansion of the Roxas City Airport here is set to begin this year, according to Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vivencio Dizon.

In a press conference held yesterday in Capiz, Dizon said the agency is making efforts to visit all airports across the country to personally assess their conditions and infrastructure needs.

He cited Roxas City Airport, alongside Siargao Airport, as examples of facilities that face overcrowding issues, especially during flight delays, due to a lack of seating and passenger space.

The planned expansion, with an allocated budget of P300 million, will cover the enhancement of both the departure and arrival areas, as well as upgrades to the airport tower which needs to be resolved immediately due to its ‘safety issues’ based on the report of Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP-Capiz).

The project is expected to boost tourism in Capiz, promote the province’s branding as the “Seafood Capital of the Philippines,” and highlight its scenic coastal destinations.

Once the contract will be finalized soon, the airport expansion is targeted for completion by the first quarter of 2026./PN
