ILOILO – A six-wheeler truck loaded with animal feed caused a chain of car crashes in Barangay Jibao-an, Pavia at approximately 10:30 a.m. yesterday, April 10.

In a Panay News interview, Staff Sergeant Crisande Maquiling of the Pavia police said the truck was allegedly speeding when it sideswiped a sports utility vehicle (SUV) about to take a left turn.

In the SUV were its driver Rode Ann Rios Edangga, 30, and passengers Dorothy Edangga, 51, Rodel Edangga Jr., 18, and 10-year-old “Rylee.” All are residents of Eon Centennial Homes in Pavia.

Consequently, the delivery truck swerved. It was driven by Ariel Acosta Asuncion, 46, from Oton, Iloilo, and was carrying passengers Romulo Fuentes, 32, Shean Lorilla, 24, and Alberto Gonzales, 28.

This maneuver caused the truck driver to lose control. And when it veered back into its original lane, it collided with a pickup truck before completely falling on its side, on top of the pickup.

Pickup truck diver Lily Ann Jardo Miranda, 35, of Barangay Balabag, Pavia, sustained injuries. Prompt first aid was administered by emergency personnel before she was rushed to the hospital for further medical attention.

Miranda had passengers Visitacion Sancio, 55; Mildred Kausing, 68; and four-year-old “Eric,” all residents of the area.

All vehicles involved incurred damages, the extent of which remains undetermined as of this writing.

Maquiling expressed the urgency of thoroughly investigating the incident to determine the sequence of events and establish accountability.

Here, he also emphasized the importance of road safety measures and urged all motorists to remain vigilant and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent similar incidents./PN
