BANGA, Aklan – A 14-year-old lad drowned in a river in Barangay Jumarap here.
Justin Bryan Carbonel was a resident of Barangay Poblacion. He and two 12-year-old friends went bathing in the river.
All of a sudden, Carbonel shouted for help; he was drowning, police said.
His two friends, however, did not know how to swim and thus failed to rescue Carbonel.
A resident who saw what was happening rushed to help but Carbonel was already turning blue when taken out of the river.
Carbonel was believed to have dived into the river but in the process hit his head and chest against some underwater rocks.
He was taken to the Aklan Provincial Hospital where he was declared “dead on arrival.”/PN
