BACOLOD City – What could possibly cause the spate of robberies in the city? Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) has an idea.
The scarcity of illegal drugs prompted its foregoing dealers to resort to robbery instead, a BCPO report showed.
The report was presented by Wanky in behalf of the police station commanders before the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) during its regular session yesterday.
This is attributed to the police’s campaign against drugs, Wanky explained.
According to the BCPO director, dealers can no longer engage in the drug trade “easily.”
Robbery cases rose to 133 from January to July this year compared to 86 in the same period last year.
“The report was substantial. Also, it takes a long time to solve all issues in the city,” said Councilor Renecito Novero.
Novero was thankful that Wanky along with nine station commanders attended the meeting after the SP invited them last week.
Police Station 1 commander Senior Inspector Leo Estopa, Police Station 2 commander Chief Inspector Benedicto Villarias, Police Station 3 commander Senior Inspector Jun Ray Batadlan, Police Station 4 commander Chief Inspector Ritchie Gohee, Police Station 5 commander Chief Inspector Sherlock Gabana, Police Station 6 commander Chief Inspector Jovil Sedel, Police Station 7 commander Senior Inspector Ramil Sarona, Police Station 8 commander Senior Inspector Wilfredo Benoman, and Police Station 9 commander Senior Inspector John Mark Llovido attended the session.
Senior Inspector Kelvin Zita of Police Station 10 was on leave.
Wanky said the BCPO still have to intensify its operations.
Novero suggested barangay officials, especially the village watchmen, must coordinate with the BCPO.
For his part, Councilor Caesar Distrito said the BCPO must “double or triple their effort” in stopping robberies and other crimes in the city./PN
