AKLAN — The Department of Trade and Industry-Western Visayas (DTI-WV) has strictly enforced a price freeze on basic necessities in the municipality of Ibajay following the local government’s declaration of a state of calamity on September 26.
This measure comes after the Sangguniang Bayan passed Resolution No. 2025-061, declaring the town under a state of calamity due to the widespread devastation brought by Severe Tropical Storm “Opong,” which severely affected 35 barangays.
Under the Price Act, the prices of basic goods in areas declared under a state of calamity are automatically frozen at their prevailing levels for 60 days. Items covered by the freeze include sardines, milk, instant noodles, coffee, bottled water, bread, salt, candles, and detergent.
DTI reminded retailers that violations of the price freeze may result in fines ranging from P5,000 to P1 million, and imprisonment from one to ten years.
The agency also urged the public to remain vigilant and immediately report any violations to ensure consumer protection during this critical period./PN
