DTI-Guimaras inspects weighing scales

THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) – Guimaras Provincial Office joined the local government unit (LGU) of Nueva Valencia, Guimaras in an inspection of weighing scales in the public market of Brgy. Igang as well as other stores located in the poblacion.

Trade and Industry Development Specialist II Melecia U. Pait said in a report that the initiative aims to check if weighing scales used in retail stores are accurate or not.

Aside from that, the inspection also aims to increase the awareness of business establishments in line with the Fair Trade Laws.

The inspection discovered eight defective weighing scales out of 76 inspected. The defective weighing scales were confiscated and turned over to the Office of the Municipal Treasurer, while the accurate ones were sealed with inspection stickers to assure from being tampered.

Aside from Brgy. Igang, other barangays and municipalities of the province will also be covered of the inspection to be scheduled by the LGUs.

To avoid being victims of inaccurate weighing scales, DTI is urging the public to become vigilant by patronizing retail stores using regulated weighing scales and by exercising their rights and responsibilities as consumers.
