ILOILO City – In a strategic move to transform Guimaras mangoes from a local delicacy into a globally competitive export product, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is launching a comprehensive campaign aimed at boosting the fruit’s visibility in both national and international markets.
Led by DTI’s Supply Chain and Logistics Group (SCLG) and Regional Operations Group (ROG), the initiative combines logistics innovation, digital marketing, and export promotion to scale up the reach of the Guimaras mango — the first and only Philippine agricultural product granted Geographic Indication (GI) status.
“The Guimaras mango’s recognition as the first and only agricultural product in the Philippines with GI status speaks volumes about its quality, heritage, and market potential. DTI is fully committed to supporting initiatives that protect the authenticity of our local products while enabling them to thrive in modern, competitive markets,” said Trade Secretary Ma. Cristina Roque.
“This milestone reflects President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s Bagong Pilipinas agenda — a vision where no farmer is left behind and every Filipino takes pride in our land’s bounty. Bringing Guimaras mangoes from farm to table is more than trade — it’s about honoring tradition, empowering communities, and creating shared prosperity,” she added.
DTI’s effort involves a multi-sectoral collaboration with the provincial government of Guimaras, the Guimaras Mango Growers and Producers Cooperative, and private logistics and e-commerce partners. These partnerships aim to improve supply chain efficiency, support farm-level productivity, and increase consumer access through both physical and digital platforms.
The centerpiece of the international push will be the inclusion of Guimaras mangoes in IFEX Philippines 2025, a premier international food trade fair organized by the DTI’s export promotions arm, the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM). The event will position the mangoes as a premium product to global buyers, bolstered by logistics support and farm-to-market readiness.
On the digital front, the DTI has partnered with a major online shopping platform and courier service to integrate Guimaras mangoes into the national e-commerce network. This digital strategy aims to help local growers tap into new markets, especially in areas where access to fresh, high-quality fruit is limited. (DTI/PN)
