BACOLOD City – President Rodrigo Duterte is the worst violator of women’s rights, according to women advocate group Gabriela Negros.

Gloria “Nanay Monyin” Loplop, one of the oldest organizer of Gabriela Negros, said Duterte is the “classic and blatant example of machismo.”

Dutere showed “utmost disrespect” to women when he ordered members of the Armed Forces to shoot female affiliates of the New People’s Army on their vaginas.

This and Duterte’s rape jokes disgust women’s rights advocates, said Loplop, prompting them to enjoin all Filipinas to unite for the President’s ouster.

In May last year, Duterte jokingly told soldiers set to fight local terrorists in Marawi City that he will claim responsibility over the rape of three women in case some of the troopers will be accused of such abuse.

“He (Duterte) personifies the traits of men that see women as a mere sex object,” said Loplop.

Loplop added that Duterte, being the highest official in the country, sets a “very dangerous” example that may lead to malpractices in treating women.

Proclamation No. 224 declares the first week of March of every year as Women’s Week and March 8 as Women’s Rights and International Peace Day in the Philippines.

On Thursday, women’s rights advocates marched on the streets of this capital city to voice out their opposition on all forms of violence and abuses against women./PN
