BACOLOD City – To optimize the garbage hauling process throughout the city during the MassKara festivities, the city government’s Department of Public Services (DPS) is deploying three additional collection trucks.
The MassKara Festival started on Oct. 7; the highlight is this Oct. 22 – the street dance and arena competition where participants parade from the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) replica situated at the corner of Gonzaga-San Juan Streets, proceeding to the Paglaum Sports Complex.
The urgency to augment the waste management efforts followed complaints regarding uncollected garbage, notably at festival sites such as the BCGC, The Upper East-Megaworld, Lacson Tourism Strip, Bacolod City Public Plaza, Bacolod Old Airport, SM City Mall, and Ayala Malls Capitol Central.
Ma. Fe Tresfuentes, DPS officer-in-charge, said traffic congestion led to delays for collection trucks operated by IPM Construction Development Corp. (IPM-CDC). As a swift response, two DPS trucks typically designated for the clean and green initiative were reassigned to ensure daily garbage collection.
An additional IPM-CDC truck was also deployed to further this effort.
Tresfuentes also urged kiosk owners to be proactive in maintaining cleanliness. A concerning trend observed was the littering in various areas, a result of some residents disposing of their waste indiscriminately outside garbage bins./PN
