MANILA – Negrense volleyball standout Myrtle Totica Escanlar is set to play for the National University Lady Bulldogs for college. She formalized her commitment recently.

The Pontevedra, Negros Occidental native was among the NU high school volleybelles that decided to continue their collegiate careers with the Lady Bulldogs.

“I am excited. This is a dream come true for me,” said the Calvary Baptist Academy of Pontevedra, Inc. standout. “” just prayed and things just turned out the way they are right now.”

She added: “I am bursting with gratitude and feeling humbled for this God-given opportunity. But I guess the strongest emotion I am feeling right now is confidence, because I prayed for this and doors were opened.”

The 5-foot-5 hitter is a welcome addition to the Lady Bulldogs due to her wealth of experience playing for Western Visayas in the Palarong Pambansa and with Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts in the Rebisco National Finals.

Escanlar was actually to play for the NU Lady Bullpups in the UAAP juniors volleyball but the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic prevented her from doing so.

Escanlar, however, recently played for Boysen Paint Masters-NU Lady Bullpups in the VolleyPrep tournament in Aklan where she was awarded the Best Outside Hitter aside from her team winning the championship.

“I know that it is going to be hard and challenging. Training is going to be tough and balancing my studies is going be difficult too,” Escanlar said.

“But I have faith that the Lord will guide and protect me through all obstacles and hardships that I will be facing at NU Lady Bulldogs,” added the Negrense volleybelle.

Aside from Escanlar, also moving up to Lady Bulldogs from Lady Bullpups were fellow Negrense Shaira Jardio, Vange Alinsug, Leoranne Santiago, Minierva Maaya and Jazlyn Ellarina./PN
