
ILOILO – A detainee from Tigbauan town who had escaped police custody surrendered to the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) on Monday, Nov. 27 at around 7 p.m.
The 21-year-old Jesry Manlapuz turned himself in to IPPO director, Colonel Ronaldo Palomo.
Captain Mary Jane Panes, Tigbauan police chief, said Manlapuz initially hid within Tigbauan before moving to Oton and Leon towns.
Following his surrender, Manlapuz claimed to have been an informant for the Tigbauan police and other drug enforcement units, assisting in drug buy-bust operations.
Manlapuz also alleged that the sachets of suspected shabu found on him at the time of his arrest on Nov. 17 were planted by the police. He had been apprehended for possessing P7,500 worth of suspected shabu.
His escape from the Tigbauan Municipal Police Station occurred on Nov. 24 while being escorted to the restroom by an on-duty officer.
Colonel Palomo has assured a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Manlapuz’s escape.
Regarding the claims of planted evidence, Palomo said the matter would be left to the courts. He also confirmed that Manlapuz is not listed as an asset of the IPPO, but an investigation will be conducted into these claims.
Manlapuz, after surrendering, has been placed back in detention at the Tigbauan Police Station./PN
