ILOILO – The Estancia municipal police station was placed under mandatory quarantine. One of its personnel tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
According to Police Major Aldrin Lamera, police chief, the infected cop was a staff sergeant who got the virus from his wife, an employee at the Carles Rural Health Center who got infected on April 25.
On April 29, the policeman underwent swabbing. He was confirmed positive for COVID-19 the following day.
The police and his wife were quarantined in the town of Carles.
Lamera and his 20 personnel underwent swabbing yesterday, May 4.
He said they could not accommodate the public at the moment.
“My police had mild symptoms like cough and sore throat. We already submitted ourselves for a swab test despite having no close contact with him,” Lamera said.
The Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) sent personnel from the 2nd Mobile Force Company to Estancia to take over.
On the other hand, a total of 17 personnel of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) in Camp Delgado tested positive for COVID-19.
According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong, spokesperson of the PRO-6, out of 42 personnel who underwent swab testing, including PRO-6 Director Police Brigadier General Rolando Miranda, only one tested positive.
All infected personnel were assigned in the Regional Operations Division (ROD) office.
They were already facility quarantined. All were asymptomatic.
Malong said PRO-6 personnel are now on skeletal duty. Half of the personnel were told to work from home./PN
