ILOILO City – An ex-convict and high-value drug target of the police was shot dead yesterday in Barangay Camasihan, Culasi, Antique.
The 36-year-old Lonchivar Parangue died of two gunshot wounds on the chest and forehead.
He was No. 2 in Culasi police station’s list of suspected drug personalities, said Inspector Marc Dado, Culasi police chief.
The buy-bust operation against Parangue was carried out around 10:07 a.m., Dado told Panay News.
After realizing he was being entrapped, Parangue tried to shoot Police Officer 1 Mark Jalandoon but the cop wrestled the suspect’s gun.
Dado said he shot Parangue because Jalandoon’s life was already in danger.
“I shot him when I saw na ang tao ko ay nahulog na sa palayan at in danger na ang life. I don’t want to kill but I have no choice,” Dado told Panay News.
Parangue had been under surveillance since November 2016, he added.
Parangue became the 23rd person killed in Western Visayas since the Philippine National Police launched Oplan Double Barrel against drug trafficking in July last year.
Dado said Parangue had a string of criminal cases, including murder in the town of San Jose.
“He was convicted of murder and accused of extortion, too,” said Dado.
Recovered from the buy-bust scene were the .38 revolver of Parangue, four live ammunitions, the P500 buy-bust money, and two sachets of shabu.
Parangue was also the fourth drug suspect killed this year in Western Visayas.
On Jan. 1., 42-year-old Elphy Sagpao was shot dead also in Culasi. Two days after, on Jan. 3, 23-year-old Joevanny Malutao Ballenas of Barangay Palma, Barbaza, Antique died in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Funda Dalipe, San Jose, Antique.
On Jan. 10, Rafe Diamante, 35, of Nueva Valencia, Guimaras was shot dead in a police buy-bust operation in Sitio Lugutan, Barangay Manoc-manoc, Boracay Island./PN
